Prothrombin Test: Prothrombin Time PT with INR in Alaska
Prothrombin Test: Prothrombin Time PT with INR is a laboratory test you can request directly. The Prothrombin Test evaluates blood clotting by measuring prothrombin time and INR levels.
What this test is
This test assesses how quickly your blood clots by measuring prothrombin time (PT) and the International Normalized Ratio (INR). It helps evaluate the function of certain clotting factors in the blood.
What it measures
- Prothrombin Time (PT) — reflects how quickly blood clots
- International Normalized Ratio (INR) — standardizes PT results across different labs
What the test involves

Why it is often ordered
Clinicians often order this test to monitor blood-thinning medication or assess bleeding disorders. It can also help evaluate liver function or vitamin K status.
Preparation
Preparation instructions may vary, so it's important to follow the specific guidelines provided by the lab conducting the test.
How results are reported
