Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) Online Testing in Missouri

What this test is

The CMP is a blood test that provides important information about your body's chemical balance and metabolism. It measures glucose levels, electrolyte and fluid balance, as well as kidney and liver function. This test helps in understanding how well your organs are functioning.

What it measures

• Glucose — reflects blood sugar levels
• Calcium — indicates bone and muscle health
• Sodium — affects fluid balance
• Potassium — important for nerve and muscle function
• Chloride — helps maintain fluid balance
• Albumin — a protein made by the liver
• Bilirubin — a waste product processed by the liver
• Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) — reflects kidney function

What the test involves

The CMP involves a standard blood draw, usually from a vein in your arm. The sample is then analyzed in a laboratory.

Why it is often ordered

Clinicians typically order a CMP to monitor overall health and detect any potential issues with metabolism. It can also be used to check for conditions affecting the kidneys or liver.

Preparation

Preparation for the CMP may require fasting or other specific instructions. Always follow the guidance provided by the collection lab.
