Mold Spores Allergy Test Panel: Tests 5 Common Types in New Mexico

What this test is

This test measures specific IgE antibodies in the blood to determine if you have an allergy to certain mold spores. It focuses on five common molds that can trigger allergic reactions. Understanding these allergies can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

What it measures

• Alternaria tenuis — indicates possible allergy to Alternaria mold
• Aspergillus fumigatus — reflects potential sensitivity to Aspergillus mold
• Candida albicans — shows possible allergic reaction to Candida mold
• Cladosporium herbarum — suggests allergy to Cladosporium mold
• Mucor racemosus — indicates sensitivity to Mucor mold

What the test involves

The test involves a standard blood draw, where a healthcare professional collects a small blood sample from a vein in your arm. This sample is then analyzed for specific IgE antibodies related to mold allergies.

Why it is often ordered

Clinicians typically order this test when a person shows symptoms that suggest a mold allergy, such as sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes. It helps identify specific mold allergens that may be causing these symptoms.

Preparation

Preparation may vary, so it is important to follow the specific instructions provided by the lab conducting the test. Always confirm any special requirements directly with the lab.

How results are reported
