Allergy Testing in Oregon
Allergy Testing is a laboratory test you can request directly. Allergy testing helps identify substances that may trigger allergic reactions by measuring specific antibodies in your blood.
What this test is
Allergy testing is a blood test that measures the levels of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to specific allergens. This test can help identify potential allergic reactions to various substances like pollen, food, or pet dander.
What it measures
- IgE antibodies — reflects sensitivity to specific allergens
What the test involves
The test involves a standard blood draw, where a small sample of blood is collected from a vein in your arm. The sample is then analyzed for specific IgE antibodies.
Why it is often ordered
Clinicians typically order allergy testing to investigate symptoms that may suggest an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, itching, or skin rashes. It helps in determining potential allergens that could be causing these symptoms.
Preparation
Preparation for the test may vary, so it is important to follow the specific instructions provided by the collection lab. This may include avoiding certain medications.
How results are reported
